Community Fund grantee organization Mighty Writers offers free literacy programming to over 3,000 students in Philadelphia every year. The organization recently partnered with LitHub to create the Mighty Song Writers video series. The series has featured top-level songwriters such as Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires, and Jewel. New episodes are posted every Wednesday.
The series is part of the organization's ongoing efforts to keep students engaged and develop their love of writing in the midst of the COVID19 pandemic. As Executive Director Tim Whitaker told the Philadelphia Inquirer: "The challenge is to find ways to get kids excited about writing. So for some kids that’s sports. For some it’s comic books, or food. And for many kids it’s music.”
