Founded in 1985, The New Kensington Community Development Corporation strives to strengthen the physical, social and economic fabric of the Fishtown, Kensington, and Port Richmond neighborhoods in Philadelphia. NKCDC’s multi-faceted approach to community development focuses on increasing the health and sustainability of communities by addressing health and well-being of residents, improving the natural and built environment, and working toward environmental justice in neighborhoods suffering from decades of disinvestment. Using a trauma-informed community development model, NKCDC is investing in a collaborative approach to finding solutions for entrenched problems, and works with community members and partners to increase collective efficacy, reduce violence, and foster community resiliency.
