Sunday Suppers Philadelphia provides family-based, healthy meal preparation and facilitated dining experiences for families in Philadelphia’s hungriest neighborhoods. The program includes a cohort structure for engaging participants and it documents menu and lesson planning to share with the community. It has increased services to participants by providing cooking supplies, supplemental programs such as weight loss counseling, exercise group meetings and a community garden. It engages participants as peer leaders and maintains contact with alumni. Since 2012, the program has served 189 families and provided 16,000 meals. The program has significant impact on individuals – families eat better, reduce their consumption of sugary drinks and show improved communication skills. Based on these successes, the program expanded in 2018 to a second site in Philadelphia.
