Physicians, Scientists, and Engineers for Healthy Energy (PSE) has released the first comprehensive assessment of Pennsylvania’s waste-disposal practices, which concludes that more than 80% of all waste from the state’s oil and gas drilling operations stays inside the state. The health implications of these findings are alarming. As PSE states: “Numerous human health hazards have been associated with waste from oil and gas extraction, including potential exposure to compounds known to cancer.” An interactive mapping tool was also released in conjunction with the study.

PSE was previously supported by the Foundation with an Emerging Leaders Fund grant.
